Several Metro East organizations will be on hand to collect items
As a part of Earth Day and National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, State Senator Erica Harriss (56th-Glen Carbon) is proud to partner with several Metro East area organizations for a Community Shred Event and Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 22 in Wood River. Several organizations will be on hand to collect food and hygiene donations, gently used items, and unused prescriptions drugs. The event will also provide a shred truck for sensitive documents. “With the nicer weather, people are spring cleaning which is why I felt like this time was a great opportunity for the community to have a place to take their unwanted, gently used items,” said Senator Harriss. “It’s also tax time which means there are a lot of confidential documents people want to get rid of, so we are providing a shred truck.” In addition to the shred truck, the following organizations will be collecting various items including:- Support the Girls – Edwardsville: unopened menstrual hygiene products, new packaged or tagged underwear, and gently used clean bras of all sizes and types.
- The Metro East Humane Society: cleaning supplies and dog and cat items for the shelter.
- The Glen-Ed Pantry: clean, gently used clothing, toys, small household items and nonperishable foods.
- Louis Youth Sports Outreach: gently used youth sports equipment
- Wood River Police Department: unused prescription drugs.
- Clean, gently used eyeglasses
