State Senator Erica Harriss has released the below statement following a joint hearing on the House Floor Wednesday where Chicago Mayor-Elect Brandon Johnson addressed members of the 103rd General Assembly:
“Mayor-Elect Brandon Johnson’s speech today did not address the great concerns I have about Chicago’s crime, finances, and leadership. While I acknowledge Chicago’s great economic impact on our state, I will strongly oppose a Chicago bailout on the hardworking businesses and taxpayers of Illinois. Illinois is a diverse state with so much to offer. I hope that in the future, the Democratic Majority will give the same attention and prioritization they are giving to Chicago and downstate communities like ours.”
