State Senator Erica Harriss teamed up with the Crisis Food Center and Meridian Illinois Tuesday to distribute 150 turkeys and hams prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
“Thanksgiving is a time to extend our blessings beyond our tables and lend a helping hand to those in need,” said Senator Harriss. “By teaming up with Meridian and the Crisis Food Center, we were able to identify individuals across the area who could benefit from our distribution event.”
Senator Harriss and representatives from both agencies hand delivered items to residents’ vehicles at the Crisis Food Center who organized distribution recipients based on needs. In total, 75 turkeys and 75 hams were given out free courtesy of Meridian Illinois.
“Today was a great day! It’s Thanksgiving week and so to see the smiles on residents faces as we delivered their ham or turkey to them was an incredible feeling and I am grateful to be a part of this distribution event,” concluded Senator Harriss.
The free ham and turkey giveaways are a statewide initiative by Meridian Illinois Managed Care Plans leading up to the week of Thanksgiving.
