State Senator Erica Harriss has released the following statement following the Governor’s State of the State and State Budget Address:
“For the last two years, Illinois has reaped the benefits of a massive influx of federal dollars to pay for new programs, but that money is about to diminish. As the nation is on the brink of a recession, it’s imperative that we protect our working families.
“Unfortunately, the plan laid out by the Governor today increases our permanent spending by $3 billion—setting our residents up for a major tax increase down the road.
“While I appreciate the Governor’s priorities on childcare access and funding, I was saddened to find that there was no relief for families impacted by the recent increase to their utility bills.
“As the budget process unfolds, I hope that we can come together so that Illinois families are getting the best they can from their government.”
